Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick Lust for Blush Swatches and Review

More drugstore reviews for you, guys, and today I’m back with another product that quickly became everyone’s favorite. Maybelline Color Whisper lipsticks, released in Spring 2013 as part of permanent collection, are featured in 20 beautiful shades that range from nude to vampy, and come in various coverage levels.

I really like the packaging – the tube is lightweight yet sturdy, and the cap is easy to remove. It might seem like something unimportant, but sometimes it can be a bit challenging for those of us that have to do touch-ups with one hand while on the go. The caps show the color inside, which is nice if you own several of these and don’t want to look for the right shade longer than necessary.

Maybelline describes these lipsticks as “color pigments suspended in a weightless gel”, that contain “no heavy waxes or oils” to achieve “sexy, soft see through color [with] just a kiss of shine”; and I think it was a very accurate statement. Buttery smooth formula glides on the lips with ease, providing buildable coverage if necessary. And of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sniff the lipstick right away; to my pleasant surprise it had a very subtle fruity scent with just a hint of orange water; that fragrance, however, doesn’t transfer to the lips at all.

On the lips – “Lust for Blush”

Lust for Blush color is a nice marriage of mauve, taupe, and pink [which shows up mostly pink on my lips]. I think it’s a great neutral color for everyday wear, especially if like mine your lips aren’t naturally very pigmented. Like I said, the coverage ranges from shade to shade, with darker shades being more pigmented. Lust for Blush is somewhere in the middle, and gives my lips full opacity after two strokes.

Longevity-wise, Color Whispers don’t stay very long – even if you don’t actively eat or drink anything, the shine will be the first thing to disappear, soon followed by the pigment. I tested it several times just to make sure, but the average life on the lips is about an hour, which is slightly worse than similar products in the same category.

THE VERDICT
To sum it up, I thought the packaging was sleek and convenient, especially the caps that show the color inside; and the range of available shades is impressive – there’s something for everybody. Of course I wish it lasted longer on the lips, just because I really enjoyed that moisturizing feeling, but the buttery formula has its limitations, and the brand didn’t make any claims about the longevity. The buildable coverage is a nice bonus, and it doesn’t look cakey even if you keep on adding layer after layer. And guess what? No mineral oil!
