Ipsy Review: February 2013

This month Ipsy is focusing on the eyes by sending us mostly eye makeup items perfect for creating a “Red Carpet Ready” look. Out of all of the items in this bag there was only one product that I wasn’t terribly excited about – Pixi primer which has pretty bad reviews on every single website that allows them. I will try and use it anyway, maybe I’m “the 1%” that will end up getting great results from it 🙂

Note: I’m hosting a giveaway for a chance to win a “Try Me Kit” of your choice from Bona Clara cosmetics. Click here and scroll all the way down to enter.

Mica Beauty Gel Eyeliner in Black
I’m new to gel eyeliners but thankfully I do have an appropriate brush for it. It came in my BH Cosmetics brush kit and I’ve just been repurposing it as my eyebrow filler. This liner was nicely pigmented and easy to use even for a gel liner newbie like myself. I think it’s is actually in the brush and not the formula that makes it easy to apply. In just a few strokes I built up the desired intensity and thickness and didn’t experience any smudges yet.

The Lash Card
Sounds like not everyone was happy to receive these lash cards, but I actually don’t mind trying them out. Although I usually don’t have problems applying my mascara without getting it on the lids, sometimes when I’m in a rush I manage to do it anyway. So I’ll save these to use them when I really have to run somewhere.

POP Beauty Smokey Lash Kapow Mascara in Smoky Black
I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about this mascara giving them raccoon eyes, and I’m one of those people who get them easily so I decided to give it away to one of my friends who wears smoky eye every day to see if she could use it. Even if it smudges a little bit under her bottom lashes it will still be pretty much invisible due to her makeup.

Coastal Scents Eye Shadow Palette Sample – Gold Quad
The quality and the pigmentation of these eye shadows is as great as always. A little truly goes a long way and I still use my sample quad of the same size from the October-2012 bag. I was skeptical about the colors at first but they are very wearable when blended together. Also I will be a bridesmaid at my sister-in-law’s wedding in May and she wanted us to be wearing a mix of light gray and yellow, so I will definitely come up with a nice look using this palette 🙂

Pixi Beauty Flawless and Poreless Primer
This primer didn’t have the greatest reviews and now I can totally see why. I’m no stranger to primers and have a little collection over here and this one is easily the worst one I have ever tried. It made my skin feel very oily and gross and later made my foundation flake off. I thought it may have had a conflicting formula so I tried it with several other foundations and BB creams – same effect. Too bad, because I would have loved to have a pocket-sized sample.

And here’s the swatch of the eye shadow quad and the gel eyeliner. When mixed together these colors look nice and bronzey and not in-your-face yellow at all 🙂
