I-ELLA’s The List SoHo Bag Review: February 2013

Last month I was contacted by the founder of I-ELLA.com Ella Gorgla with an opportunity to review one of their monthly boxes. I have never heard of the website or about the subscription called The List before so I decided to do some research first.

From what I found out, The List is designed to deliver New York Style to your doorstep once a month and you can be sure that your bag will always be filled with the latest items popular among the trendy Big Apple ladies. The curators scour the New York City for inspiration: from the Upper East Side to SoHo, Brooklyn and beyond.

I found the previous reviews of all three bag variations:

I’m just speculating about this purely based on my personal research but it seems as you go up the “subscription tier” you receive one more big ticket item per level, which really increases the value of your bag (ex: Starter Bag has one big ticket item, SoHo bag has two etc..) Basically, I calculated that the St. Barth’s bag is the best deal of the three with the retail value almost three times higher than what you paid, but of course they are all filled with fantastic products so no matter which one you choose you can be confident that you’re getting some great goodies.
About The List:
The List is designed to deliver New York Style to your doorstep. Choose between 3 types of bags: The Starter Bag ($59/month), The Soho Bag ($129/month) or the St. Barth’s Bag (it’s really fancy, $389/month). Each bag will contain 4 to 6 items including 1 or 2 featured designers along with free samples of makeup, nail polish, personal care products and more. The subscription requires a 3-month commitment. I would be very grateful if you mentioned Glamorable as your referrer if you decide to sign up. Thank you!

Cynthia Steffe “Lydia” – Metallic Venetian Lace Dress
While talking on the phone with The List customer service to help them customize my box I told them that I’m usually torn between the Upper East Side style and the SoHo chic. I prefer to wear more conservative clothes around my family and a mix of glam/bohemian when I’m with friends. This dress is great for partying and going out, and the short length is perfectly balanced by the long sleeves and high neckline so I can definitely wear it around both parties. I’m size 4 on the top and 6 on the bottom and this size 4 dress fits me like a glove. At first I thought it’s too short but after hearing my husband’s reassuring compliments it really grew on me. The lacey sleeves felt a little scratchy at first probably because the fabric is so unusual and not something I’ve ever worn before, but I forgot about it in about ten minutes and it didn’t bother me at all anymore.

Deepa Gurnani Metallic Bead & Crystal Headband
While beading couture pieces for Alexander McQueen, Emanuel Ungaro, Fendi, Marjan Pejoski, and other high-fashion designers Deepa Gurnani gained extensive experience with embroidery techniques. She married Jay Lakhani, a jewelry designer who shares her passion for creating beautiful accessories and together they launched their label “Deepa Gurnani”. This gorgeous headwrap can also be worn as a headband to create two different looks: boho style and romantic/glam, and I will be wearing it both ways for sure. The quality of the beading is simply stunning and this is currently the most beautiful hair accessory in my collection.

Pureology Precious Oil (travel size)
I really like Pureology products, especially their shampoo that makes your head tingle a little bit thanks to the signature blend of essential oils. Precious Oil is designed to make your hair soft and manageable while eliminating the frizz and flyaways and it did just that. I mixed a few drops into my shampoo, conditioner and leave-in spray for the best results. The formula is also paraben- and silicone-free.

Hand in Hand Orange Blossom Shea Butter Soap
Hand in Hand is a conscious company with a cause. For every soap bar purchased they donate a bar to help save a child’s life, preserve 50 sq ft of rainforest and make a donation to fund micro-credit loans to help alleviate poverty in the US and the developing world. This Orange Blossom bar is palm oil- and cruelty-free, and doesn’t contain gluten, petrochemicals and parabens. I have not tried it yet because I still need to use up my current one but I’m looking forward to it. I’m happy to know that just because I have this soap in my hands right now I contributed to improving someone’s quality of life in the developing country.

COCO Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum (sample)
This is one of those “not for everyone” fragrances that I can see people either loving or hating. At first it seems too grown up, but after a couple hours I noticed that it became very youthful and flowery yet still keeping those sophisticated notes.
