Glossybox Review: January 2013 // The Man Repeller Box

In the month of January Glossybox collaborated with The Man Repeller’s Leandra to include her favorite winter survival products.

My box arrived in February so they really look forever shipping them out. I’m not a Glossybox subscriber anymore for several very important mostly personal reasons, but I received this month’s box as a gift and I’m very thankful for that because the products actually look amazing. Luckily, Glossybox screwed up the order in my favor and I got not one but TWO identical boxes.

About Glossybox:
Glossybox is one of the most popular international beauty subscription boxes, and now it finally came to the US. Each month Glossybox subscribers receive up to six deluxe-size to full size products from crème de la crème of international brands. At $21/month this is one of the most expensive monthly boxes, but the value of your box will always be above. Click here to join Glossybox.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara  in 01 Extreme Black
I already own a full size of this mascara and I love it. It’s actually my second favorite after Guerlain Noir G which I’m still hunting for a good deal on since it retails for like $40 and my tube is almost empty. This mascara really defines the lashes well, they never ever looked clumpy with it even if I layer it on, thanks to the unique brush and the position of the bristles. It’s not clumpy and I never had problems with it clumping or flaking off. And since these samples are exactly half the size of the full-sized version it’s like I’m getting a full tube 🙂

fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum
I have combination skin so I often use mattifying lotions and serums on my T-zone. This particular serum contains umbrian clay which is apparently pretty rare since it naturally occurs only in one place on earth – at a small Italian town of Nocera Umbra. I applied this serum on a clean face after washing, and decided to not use any moisturizer to make sure I correctly evaluate the actual effect. Like all fresh products, this one smells of grass and leaves. It took the serum about 10 minutes to completely sink into my skin, which is probably too long for me on a regular day but today is Sunday so I had all the time in the world to do this. My forehead, cheeks and chin felt nice and matte but the nose just kept on shining and felt a bit oily, although less oily than usual. So for me it wasn’t a 100% mattifying effect, which means I probably won’t purchase a full-size. But it’s good enough for me to use while I’m staying inside all day 🙂 However it had another nice effect, my skin felt very smooth and polished, and felt like I just applied a silicone primer if you know what I mean, so this could be used as a pretty good primer under the makeup I think. I’ll try to use it that way some other day and update this review with my results.

Le Metier de Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution
I plan to take this sample to Florida next week and I’ll update you on the results. But as far as the ingredients go, since it contains SPF it should be worn during the day which is what I intend to do.

Living Proof. Prime Style Extender
I received this exact sample from Living proof itself a few months ago and I love it and have been using it since! It works by coating your hair in some kind of dirt-repelling substance so your hair stays clean for longer and holds the style for at least 2 days which is 100% true. I straight-ironed my hair and didn’t have to wash it or re-style it for at least 3 days, and my hair style looked perfect like on the first day 🙂 I don’t know how exactly this product works, but I know it does and I swear by it.

narciso rodriguez for her Eau de Toilette Spray
Fragrances are always very individual and I didn’t particularly care for this one, but I know someone who would.

OPI “Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer in Can’t Let Go
I googled the swatched prior to receiving my box and oh my gosh they are gorgeous. This shade is actually my favorite color from the entire collection and I’m glad that it was included in our boxes. The textured feel is very unusual and can take a little time getting used to but the wow-effect is totally worth it!

And here’s the swatch! Also I’ll be featuring this polish in my next week’s Mani Monday post so check back for more photos 🙂

Vincent Longo Lipstain SPF 15 Lipstick in Cherry
I don’t know why this is called a lip stain because there’s absolutely nothing staining in this sheer and lightweight formula. It glides on very smoothly, think tinted lip balm + lip butter. It’s really sheer but the color is buildable, which is a good thing because it easily transforms a day look into the night look by simply adding a few extra layers. Unfortunately since it’s so balmy it doesn’t stay long on the lips and I had to reapply it a lot, but the application process feels very nice and the lipstick itself smells delightful.
